As industry leaders recognized for consistently pushing the boundaries of HVAC, we strive to make every system the best it can be. Because of this, our heat pumps boast superior efficiencies, wide operating temperature ranges, easy installations, and a wealth of other features.

We are excited to announce our newest product, the MRCOOL® Universal® DC Inverter Packaged Heat Pump. This is a high-efficiency HVAC option designed for increased savings, ultimate convenience, and unparalleled comfort.

Explaining Packaged Units

Most houses with ductwork use either a split system or a packaged unit to heat and cool. While packaged units are relatively common, they may be overlooked, since they reside outside.

As the name might imply, packaged units have everything you need to heat and cool in a single cabinet outside. There are a variety of packaged units to meet various preferences and needs, from units that use natural gas to heat, to our newest system, a heat pump packaged unit. Since the Universal® Packaged Unit is a heat pump, it does not rely on fossil fuels, making it a cleaner and more sustainable option for interior comfort.

The MRCOOL® Difference

We produce some of the most efficient, innovative systems on the market, and the MRCOOL® DC Inverter Packaged Heat Pump is no different. The unit can attain a SEER2 rating of up to 17.8, meaning it will keep you perfectly comfortable using the least energy possible.

Our ENERGY STAR certified Universal® DC Inverter Packaged Heat Pump achieves this hyper-efficiency due to its DC Inverter technology. While you may not have heard of this before, DC Inverters are commonplace in our heat pumps, because we want to provide you with a top-tier system.

A DC Inverter compressor like the one our packaged unit has keeps the unit operating at a steady energy consumption rate in order to save you money while maintaining the temperature you want. Because this system will ramp up and slow down operation according to the target temperature, it uses less electricity upon startup, and will be much quieter than a typical system.

The DC Inverter compressor allows for exceptional efficiency levels and an exceptional range of operating temperatures, making this unit a cold climate heat pump. The Universal® Packaged Unit offers total comfort whether you live in Phoenix or Grand Forks, because it will keep you warm in temps down to -22° Fahrenheit and cool in weather up to 125° Fahrenheit. We have optional heat kits available for emergency heat if needed.

Two other great features of the Universal® Packaged Unit are the intelligent defrosting technology and the versatility of the air return options. Unlike a typical unit, which uses a time-based defrost cycle, our packaged unit will assess frost conditions and defrost as needed in order to function at peak efficiency all year round, no matter the weather. The versatile air return options allow for the unit to accommodate traditional installation or rooftop placement.

MRCOOL® backs this product with a peace of mind guarantee. The Universal® DC Inverter Packaged Unit comes with a 10 year labor warranty, a 10 year compressor warranty, and a 10 year parts warranty! No registration is required. In the unlikely event of an issue, just give us a call.

Choosing a new HVAC system can be a stressful process because there are so many products on the market, but the features we include really make the difference.

The Buzz About Packaged Units

Moving your heating and cooling outside has a number of advantages. First off, it saves space in whatever room you would normally keep an air handler or a gas furnace. Many air handlers are located in useful spaces like closets, laundry rooms, and basements, so moving all HVAC components outside will increase the space you have inside.

Second, packaged units are some of the easiest central HVAC systems to install, mostly because once they are set, they just need to be hooked up to ductwork and turned on. Your installer will not need to enter your home for most of the installation process, other than to turn on and test your system or unless ductwork maintenance is required. If you’re looking for a relatively quick HVAC replacement, consider installing this premium product.

The third benefit of packaged units shares a few similarities with the previous point. If your system requires repair or maintenance, the HVAC professional working on the unit won’t have to enter your home unless they are working on ductwork. This maximizes convenience for everyone, because the professional you hire will not need to work themselves into tight crawlspaces or feel like they need to tiptoe around your home, and you won’t have to surrender a section of your house for however long servicing your system might take. Let’s just face it: having a person you don’t know very well in your home is awkward for both parties! A packaged unit eliminates any of these inconveniences.

These advantages are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to packaged units. There’s much more to love about packaged units, but we can safely say that ours is one of the best.

  1. I have a 16 year old Carrier air handler model FA4CNF030 thats acting up, My brother thinks you might have an affordible replacement. What do you reccomend?

We’ve only used it for heat but during build we had the 2 copper pipes, wires and 220v box installed outside, and the piping runs about 25ft. From furnace to the pad location.

    1. We do have 2.5 ton air handlers available, but you may want to consider changing the system out completely if it is 16 years old. If your system worked well to keep your home comfortable when it was functioning correctly, then it’s an appropriate size for your home. We have 2.5 ton systems in our Signature Series.
