Cryptocurrency Mining Rig Heat Solutions from MRCOOL

cryptocurrency mining

Cryptocurrency mining is hot right now. Literally, in many cases. So, it might surprise you to learn that even small-scale mining operations can generate really uncomfortable, even dangerous, heat levels. Fortunately, when it comes to heat, MRCOOL has it covered.

Cryptocurrency Mining Heat, Humidity, & Corrosion

The big problems cryptocurrency miners run into are the same problems server room managers have been dealing with for decades. All these computers need to run all the time, and they generate a lot of heat. How can you control heat? How can you manage humidity? And, last but not least, how can you prevent corrosion?

Excess heat is an obvious concern. First, there’s just a simple matter of home comfort. Many miners are running rigs at home. All that heat can make a place miserable even in the middle of December. Second, computer components are heat sensitive. Too much heat and things start to, y’know, melt. Which is mostly bad for sensitive computer components.

Then there’s humidity and corrosion. Too much water in the air leads to metal corrosion. In case you hadn’t noticed, most computer parts are metals. Corroded metal components tend not to work too god. Too little humidity is no good either. Really dry air increases static electricity which can wreak havoc with sensitive equipment.

What you need is a cool, humidity controlled environment for maximum mining efficiency. How do you get there?

Modern HVAC Solves Cryptocurrency Mining Problems

Yes, it’s really that easy. The biggest, most complicated server farms in the world rely on modern HVAC technology for effective climate control. Yes, there are some really exotic server room builds out there, but those are, by far, the exception rather than the rule. And while putting a server farm in the Arctic is nice, it’s not really an option for most people. The workable solution for most people is basic, cost effective air conditioning technology. But which system should you choose?

MRCOOL Ductless

There are huge, farm-scale mining operations out there, but many are much more compact, home enterprises. For the latter, we recommend a MRCOOL Advantage Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump. The Advantage can deliver a lot of benefits. First, they’re energy efficient, so the add to your energy consumption will be as minimal as possible. Second, they can be installed just about anywhere. Position it right about wherever in the house your mining rig is located. Third, these units are made to be an economic value. Buying an Advantage is not going to break the average budget.

But what if you are running one of those large-scale mines and you need a lot of cooling capacity? For that, we recommend the MRCOOL Olympus Multi-Zone Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump. The Olympus can operate multiple interior air handlers of a single exterior condenser. Buyers can position between two and five, depending on their need, interior units to blow cool air to every corner of a server room. Olympus is also a great choice if you have different rigs set up in different rooms throughout a building.

But What About….

There are a lot of cheap “solutions” to mining heat online. One of the more common themes is that all you have to do is get a lot of fans to blow the hot air outside, and then have other fans to draw relatively cooler air inside.

Yes, this will work. It’s also an absolutely horrible idea.

Blowing outside air across your sensitive electronic components will remove heat. It will also do nothing to control humidity or corrosion. Depending on where you live, you might even get to enjoy the wonders of seaside salt corrosion. All in all, blowing outside, unconditioned air across your rig is a great way to destroy it.

Questions?

Seriously, now is the time to ask before you start sweating.

Coil Quality Control

MrCool Quality

Good morning, denizens of planet Earth. I’m MrCool, and this is my blog about the humble coil. But you probably already knew that.

I’m assuming you did. I’m kind of a big deal.

Anyway, I want to talk about quality control. Quality control is important. I demand every single MrCool ductless mini-split heat pump be subjected to serious quality tests before it ever leaves the factory floor. These tests make sure our units will stand up to real-life scenarios like inclement weather, moisture, mold, and so forth.

I have to be honest with you, not all the quality control tests I came up with for our products made it into the quality control procedures. I’m a little disappointed by that, but when the engineers say, “Sir, there’s no way we could get that many hamsters on such short notice,” you have to listen to them. Which means MrCool products have not be tested against a serious wild hamster infestation.

It’s an oversight, sure, but one I’m working everyday to fix.

Fortunately, that small wrinkle doesn’t apply to our excellent coils. Coils are a very important part of any modern air conditioner or heat pump system. They’re the veins and arteries of the system responsible for moving the heat in and out of your house. My engineers assure me that our coils are proof against hamster infestation.

I don’t know how they know that, but sometimes you have to take people on faith.

Meanwhile, I’m working on getting the hamsters we need for real testing. I’ve been talking to a hamster broker in Arkansas which has real promise.

Fingers crossed!

Twit Twittering on the Twitter Thing-Place

When my Director of Marketing, Lisa, told me about Twittering I first thought she was talking about something you do with your thumbs when you’re bored. I was really confused when she told me I should be Twittering on a regular basis, but I told her I would. After spending a few hours Twittering in my office, my thumbs were really tired. Not seeing the point of all this, I asked her to clarify what she meant. She did.

I’m not too sure I was entirely wrong about what I thought Twittering was. I’ve been browsing the Twitter page, and I’m pretty sure a lot of people making these ‘Tweets’ are just bored. Why would I care what you just ate for lunch? I too love the McRib, but I’m not sure why you had to tell me about it, Larry from Vancouver.

Still, Lisa insisted, so I have started the MrCool Twitter feed. I’m going to promote the MrCool ductless mini-split heat pump, but I’m also going to share my copious wisdom with you, the Internet. I’m not going to share any cat photos, because I’m pretty sure you, Internet, already have enough of those.

I know you are interested in hearing my wisdom on a more regular basis, so check out the MrCool Twitter feed. Check me out at @MRCOOLcomfort. I promise I’ll probably change your life when I get bored.

13 is the Unluckiest Number

13 is an unlucky number, or so people have said for as long as I’ve been alive. I’m not sure why 13 is unlucky, but, supposedly, it is. Many buildings omit the 13th floor on their elevators, and a lot of people take special care on the 13th day of the month, particularly if its a Friday.

This is my 13th MrCool blog post. I’m not sure if 13 is unlucky in blogs or not, but I’m going to be especially careful to make sure I don’t get cursed by a witch or something.

So, what am I going to talk to you about in this blog? Nothing dangerous, that’s for sure. I do want to reiterate that MrCool ductless mini-split heat pumps are some of the best systems on the market when it comes to delivering high quality heating and cooling air comfort. Aside, from that, which seems pretty safe to say, I’m not sure how much else I’m willing to risk.

I definitely shouldn’t talk about serial killers, werewolves, unholy horses, Frankenstein’s monster, aliens, Grandpa’s haunted rocking chair, that weird old lady across the street who may or may not be a sorceress, or the infamous Nightmare Llama of Flint, Michigan.

So, I won’t.

Why MrCool Does What He Does

Judging by your Internet browser searches, you’ve got a lot of unanswered questions. One of those questions is probably why did I, Magnus Bruce Cool, found the MrCool company to deliver high quality heating and cooling systems around the world?

It’s a very good question, and your curiosity is only natural. I’m pretty curious myself. I wonder a lot of things. Why are rabbits fuzzy? How far is it from Anchorage to Miami? What is the meaning of life? Where do babies come from?

Some of those questions just don’t have answers. I still have no idea how my children got here. I assume my wife stole them from the hospital, but I haven’t decided whether or not I should notify the authorities. It wouldn’t really answer my question either. Where the heck do the hospitals get the babies?

But, back to the important question. Why did I found the MrCool company? I got tired of the underperforming ductless mini-split systems crowding the market. I knew I could do it better than they could. And by me I mean the engineers and scientists I had the money to hire.

That was money well spent, because the latest line of MrCool ductless mini-split heat pumps are, in my highly educated opinion, the best ductless units on the market.

There you go, one question answered. Now, if you happen to know how hospitals build babies or, just as importantly, how rabbits are fuzzy, send me an email and tell me. I’d really like to know.

All Season Air Comfort

A lot of people have an air conditioner to keep them cool in the summer, and they have a furnace or boiler to keep them warm in winter. In spring and fall, they use one or the other depending on what the weather is like outside. Wouldn’t it be easier if you had a single HVAC system that could deliver great air comfort in every single season?

What an interestingly leading question.

Fortunately for you, a MrCool ductless mini-split can both heat and cool, because, at it’s core, it’s a heat pump. Heat pumps work exactly like modern air conditioners, except a heat pump can reverse its operating cycle to heat whenever you need it. Air conditioners can’t do that. No matter how nicely you ask your air conditioner, it won’t run backwards to heat the house.

I know, I tried.

So, if you’re interested in simplifying your home HVAC system and improving air comfort, you want a MrCool ductless mini-split heat pump. It will keep you cool in summer heat, and warm you up in winter chill. For fall and spring? Well, of course, a MrCool works just as well in those mixed-up seasons as it does in summer and winter.

Finally, you can get some air comfort simplicity in your complicated modern life. If you want to thank me personally, I accept cards, flowers, and chocolate treats.

Nest Eggs and Thermostats

Let me tell you about thermostats. Yes, I know, a thermostat isn’t exactly the most exciting home feature, but it’s a lot more important to home energy efficiency than you may realize. A modern programmable thermostat could save the average homeowner about 20% or more every year on their utility bill. Most people don’t save this money.

Why?

The answer is pretty easy. Most modern programmable thermostats are not very user-friendly. The average homeowner doesn’t realize how much they could be saving, so they never take the time to figure out their complicated thermostat controls. Which brings me to the Nest thermostat.

Nest is amazing. The Nest thermostat has all the capability of a programmable thermostat, but is built with user-friendliness in mind. All you have to do with a Nest thermostat is use it like you do your regular thermostat. Over time, the Nest thermostat learns your habits, and programs itself to improve household energy efficiency.

This is the MrCool blog, so you might be wondering what our ductless mini-split systems have to do with the Nest thermostat. Nest isn’t just a thermostat developer, they’re interested in making our homes smarter and more energy efficient through partnerships with other companies which is why they have the Nest Developer Program. The program is designed to promote interactivity between all the systems in a modern home regardless of manufacturer, and we’re proud to say that we’re a part of this ‘cool’ initiative.

So, what’s coming up between MrCool and Nest? There are a lot of ideas on the drawing board, and, let me just say, the future is going to be a very smart place.

Unless aliens invade. No guarantees if that happens.

Don’t Ask ‘Why Ductless?’ Ask ‘Why Not?’

A central heating and cooling system is one of the most efficient and effective ways to maintain interior air comfort. Most modern homes are built with central HVAC systems in mind. Long term, that’s just the best way to do it, so why did we design a ductless heating and cooling system?

Basically, not every home and building in the world was built with centralized heating and cooling in mind. Many older homes simply don’t have the space to accommodate bulky air ducts. Other buildings are too small to really benefit from the kind of capacity a large, centralized system delivers.

Which is where our MrCool ductless mini-split heat pumps come into play. Our systems are designed to deliver effective, affordable heating and cooling to places a modern centralized system just won’t reach.

Here are some good places you might use a MrCool:

  • The garage you want to keep cool that isn’t connected to your home’s central air conditioner.
  • A vacation cabin you use a few times a year which isn’t quite big enough to justify installing an expensive central air system.
  • Renovating an old house built without air ducts? You can use MrCool to provide single- or multi-zone comfort wherever you want.

Basically, there are a lot of places where you want heating and cooling, but don’t need a large centralized system. When it comes to that, there’s no better value on the ductless mini-split market than MrCool.
